Swallowing Screening

Free Community Swallowing Screenings

Swallowing difficulties, also known as dysphagia, can impact health and quality of life—but they’re often under-recognized. At this event, adults can receive a free 20-minute screening conducted by graduate student clinicians under the supervision of licensed speech-language pathologists. The visit includes a brief questionnaire, an interview, and drinking water as part of the screening process. Afterward, a speech-language pathologist will review your results and provide next steps if follow-up care is recommended.

Why Swallowing Screenings Matter

This article from The ASHA Leader highlights how swallowing screenings can help identify dysphagia early, support overall health, and increase access to care. (ASHA)

Public Awareness of Dysphagia is Surprisingly Low

A large national survey found that many adults are unfamiliar with dysphagia, despite how common it is. The findings point to a need for greater public education and increased access to screenings—especially for older adults and those with underlying health conditions. (Dysphagia, Springer Link)
