Individuals wishing to strengthen professional speaking abilities can benefit from customized services. Sessions may address clarity of speech and communicative effectiveness through strategies for breath control, managing rate of speech, and voice production. Additionally, speech-language pathologists (SLPs) may work with individuals on formulating and expressing ideas clearly, both verbally and in written form. Extemporaneous speaking tasks may target message effectiveness, intentional tone, and organization. Private sessions include opportunities to practice everyday workplace situations including presentations, teleconferences, meetings, and professional interviews.

NUCASLL can accommodate a wide variety of contexts, including presenting in a classroom or conference room to simulate real-world speaking situations, utilizing our Virtual Sound Room to simulate background noise or distractions that might impact communicative performance, and effective communication using videoconferencing services.
Professional speaking and communication services are elective and are not covered by insurance. Many employers have a budget for professional development, which can be used to support sessions at the Northwestern University Center for Audiology, Speech, Language, and Learning (NUCASLL).
The Northwestern University Center for Audiology, Speech, Language, and Learning provides comprehensive evaluation and therapy services on the Evanston campus. Diagnostic evaluations determine the course of treatment, including frequency and appropriateness of individual and/or group therapy.
